Gemstones – The Power of Crystal Healing
‘A gem can be a crystal whereas a crystal will not always be a gem.’
Through time immemorial, from ancient civilisations to the modern day, gems and crystals are known not only for their beauty and monetary value but also for their healing properties. It is believed that gems and crystals emit vibration frequencies which are able to resonate with our own body’s vibration and energies. Different crystals resonate at varying levels of intensity and vitality depending on their composition. Some emit a gentle, hardly perceptible energy, whilst others emit a strong and powerful energy.
Gems and crystals fall into different classification groups depending on the mineral content, pressure and the temperature which was exerted when they were first formed within the earth.
So what makes the real deal stand apart from synthetic or lab created gemstones? The belief is that genuine gemstones, formed naturally inside the Earth’s crust over millions of years by Mother Nature, have absorbed some of the energy from the planet during their formation. Something that the more common synthetic gemstones cannot replicate.
We look at some examples of genuine gemstones and the crystal healing properties they are believed to possess.
Gemstones from the Beryl family, which include gems such as emerald, aquamarine and morganite, are thought to balance the body’s systems and calm emotional trauma. Quartz crystals such as amethyst, rose quartz and citrine are said to offer protection, wisdom and clarity of thought, whilst corundum such as sapphire and ruby are said to promote confidence, unconditional love and vitality.
Specific gems and crystals when worn or placed on the body are thought to heal disease processes and imbalances within the body itself, and aid and strengthen our connection to higher realms and divination.
For example, emerald is said to aid recovery following an infection. It treats sinuses, lungs, heart and the spine and soothes the eyes. Aquamarine is believed to help reduce stress and calms a sore throat. It harmonises the pituitary and thyroid gland whereas morganite supposedly releases heartache and grief and promotes wisdom and compassion.
Amethyst is thought to help balance the endocrine system, strengthen the immune system and ease headaches. It cleanses the aura and transmutes negative energy. Rose quartz brings deep inner healing for the heart and heart chakra and attracts love and harmony. It is said to increase fertility and improve kidney and adrenal function. Citrine helps with digestion and detoxifies the blood. When placed in the farthest left point from a front door it is said to attract wealth.
Sapphire supposedly helps to treat blood disorders, strengthens blood vessels and removes impurities. Ruby is thought to overcome lethargy and exhaustion and promotes positive dream patterns. Garnet, one of the most sought after gems is said to stimulate the metabolism and regenerate DNA. It assists in the assimilation of vitamins and minerals. Emotionally it is said to release inhibitions and taboos. Then of course there is the ultimate gem; diamond, made from pure carbon. Said to be the symbol of purity, its pure white light fills holes in the aura and treats allergies and chronic conditions. It aligns the crown chakra so as to link it with divine light.
